A former credit manager turned entrepreneur, Steven founded SWRS after recognizing the industry’s broken reputation and set out to redefine what ethical collections could look like. What began in the early 1990s as a two-person operation fueled by grit and handwritten ledgers has since grown into a nationally recognized firm with offices across six states and a seventh on the way. Under his leadership, SWRS has become known for its relationship-first philosophy. Steven’s mantra — “The first step is listening” — guides every client and consumer interaction. His teams are trained to understand the “why” behind each past-due account before suggesting a solution. That empathy-driven approach has translated into higher recovery rates, long-term client trust, and industry longevity that few agencies can match. Steven’s vision has also kept SWRS on the cutting edge of technology. He was among the first in his field to integrate AI, advanced analytics, and secure omni-channel systems into collections workflows. Today, he continues to lead the company’s evolution toward automation, compliance, and cybersecurity resilience — lessons learned firsthand after overcoming a seven-figure ransomware incident in 2020. Despite growth and modernization, Steven remains hands-on.
