Her goal is to provide personalized, compassionate care while safely achieving the best possible aesthetic outcome for each patient. Her artistry and keen attention to detail combine to make this possible. She believes all patients, whether undergoing cosmetic surgery or breast reconstruction after breast cancer, deserve an optimally aesthetic outcome. At Dr. Fisher’s practice, the difference is the aesthetic. Fisher understands that cosmetic and reconstructive surgery provide both physical and emotional wellness. She and her team aspire to empower women every day to move forward in life, confidently. Dr. Fisher graduated medical school with honors from the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston and moved to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, to complete her training in plastic and reconstructive surgery. During her plastic surgery training, she cared for patients with breast cancer, head and neck cancer, and burn and extremity trauma, using both traditional and microsurgical reconstructive techniques to solve a spectrum of functional and aesthetic problems. She trained in microsurgical perforator flap (DIEP flap) breast reconstruction at Magee-Womens Hospital and studied microsurgical lymph node transfer to treat upper extremity lymphedema with Dr. Corrine Becker in Paris. Dr. Fisher has an affinity for the precision and artistry of plastic surgery and its potential to help improve and restore a patient’s form, function and confidence. Dr. Fisher won the Gold Foundation Humanism and Excellence in Teaching Award twice and the Department of Plastic Surgery teaching award three times. She has published multiple peer-reviewed articles and book chapters in topics ranging from regenerative medicine to patient safety. Following her research fellowship in regenerative medicine, she continues to have an ongoing interest in the potential applications of adipose-derived stem cells and fat grafting in soft tissue restoration. Dr. Fisher is proud to serve on the Medical Advisory Committee for the Breast Cancer Resource Center and is a regularly invited guest speaker on topics related to breast reconstruction, as well as an Art Bra® Austin sponsor. She regularly attends national breast and microsurgery meetings to stay up to date on the latest research and uses an evidence-based approach to provide optimal, state-of-the-art care. She bakes on weekends, is energized by live music, and relaxes by jogging, swimming, going horseback riding, and participating in other outdoor activities.
Dr. Silvia Kurtovic is a plastic and reconstructive surgeon who completed a fellowship in breast reconstruction and microsurgery, followed by a cosmetic surgery fellowship. Her passion for the care of breast cancer patients led her to the pursuit of expertise in breast reconstruction and optimizing the aesthetic outcome. Inspired by her mother’s breast cancer journey, Dr. Kurtovic has a unique awareness of and connection to her breast reconstruction patients. She is committed to providing reconstructive patients the space they need to begin healing, both physically and emotionally. She believes the most important interaction is when she meets a new patient for the first time in consultation. She welcomes patients to tell her their stories so she can better understand what is important to them, before discussing surgical options. She understands every woman is unique and deserves a personalized approach to her breast cancer recovery. Dr. Kurtovic grew up in southern California and graduated with honors from the University of California, Los Angeles in physiological sciences. Upon earning her medical degree in New York at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine, she competed a decade of rigorous post-graduate surgical training in top-ranking residency and fellowship programs across North America. She did her general surgery residency at Cedars Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, at which time she developed her interest in the artistry of plastic surgery. Dr. Kurtovic was inspired by the ability of plastic surgeons to transform and restore the human body, both physically and emotionally, and she chose to pursue further specialization in plastic and reconstructive surgery at Duke University. Immersed in an environment of world leaders in reconstructive surgery, Dr. Kurtovic knew she wanted to provide advanced reconstructive surgical options for breast cancer patients. Dr. Kurtovic earned the highly competitive international microsurgery fellowship under the mentorship of Dr. Edward Buchel at the University of Manitoba Health Sciences Centre in Winnipeg, Canada, where she performed advanced techniques in muscle-sparing perforator flap (DIEP flap) breast reconstruction. She then completed a second Canadian fellowship at the University of British Columbia in aesthetic surgery and comprehensive breast surgery under the mentorship of Dr. Brian Peterson, a premier aesthetic surgeon known for his long-lasting, natural results. When not in the hospital or clinic, Dr. Kurtovic enjoys drawing, cooking, baking, traveling and spending time with friends and family. She is an animal lover and proud mama to Nyla, her goofy greyhound rescue. She is a yogi who loves exploring and connecting with nature, and practices mindfulness as much as possible.
